Bruno Viscovi came to America from the hillside town of Albona, overlooking the Istrian Peninsula on the Adriatic Sea, located just southeast of Trieste on the borders of Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. The memories of his palate are distinctively expressed with the only Istrian Menu on the West Coast. The unusual dishes and recipes of his region reflect the infusions from the Italians, Austrians, Hungarians, Slavs, Spaniards, French, Jews, Greeks, and Turks. In 2008 Bruno passed the torch to his nephew, Michael Bruno, and executive chef, Samuel Hernandez. The two have proudly stayed true to the Istrian delicacies of the region. Excellent reviews have appeared in many publications including the list of “The Bay Area’s Top 100 Restaurants†for eight consecutive years, Zagat, and the Michelin guide. Since 1988 ALBONA has welcomed the clients with personal service and the staff is delighted to share their knowledge of the history and cuisine of that complex Istrian region.
